Dark Carnival in Dota 2: Part One, Night Escape

Dark Carnival has begun in Dota 2 — a new long-running event in the game’s universe. Valve have lifted the curtain on the carnival, and its first part, called Night Escape, is already available in game, completely free for all players.

Valve opened the announcement with irony: isn’t it a shame to wake up in a prison car with no memory of how you got there, find no way out, and realize you’ve become a pawn in the hands of a mad puppet master who struck a deal with an ancient evil that enslaves worlds? The developers added with a smirk that this is familiar to everyone.

Night Escape

In the first part of the event, players will guide Tresdin (Legion Commander) and Hoodwink through a huge story campaign: the heroines are trying to break free from the giant spider-legged Ringmaster train. On board, they’ll face deadly robots, heartbreaking mysteries, and unique rewards, with all dialogue fully voiced.

The heroines themselves can’t remember how they ended up on the train, so you can jump into the story right away, without a long introduction: the first stage of Night Escape is already open. And for those interested in the backstory, Valve have prepared a separate comic — it’s published on the official Dota 2 website.

What’s included in the update

• Five new automaton personas — mechanical reinterpretations of classic Dota heroes, featuring new animations, effects, icons, and more.
• 20 new item sets: some are in the new treasure, while the rest can only be obtained by exploring the event map and progressing through the story.

And that’s far from everything. According to Valve, Night Escape is only the beginning: many surprises await players on the road to freedom, and the show is just getting started.
